Can anyone help me how to have Content slides and Quiz slide in one single project on Captivate 2019

Hi there,

I am new to Captivate 2019. Can anyone tell me or show me how I can have content slides and quiz slides interacting with each other on one single project?

I am creating an e-learning course for my company where I have intro slides with video the explains what the course entails.  Then we move on the start a series of questions that each should dovetail (branch out) to different slides that might be another content/video or another set of questions depending on the learner’s answer. I have laid out all the questions and their respective branching answers on a word document and I am coping and pasting them onto Captivate.

The problem I am having is that I successfully create the content slides and some of the quiz on a single project but I cannot mix/move them around.
For instance, I have an intro and then user/learner will click next and start the quiz or set of questions. If he chooses option “1” out of 8 and clicks submit, he or she should to to another video slide that should take him or her to a different kind of assessment. At the same time, if user/learner chooses option “2”, he or she should see a different set of questions. Most of the questions are also “yes and no” based and depending which one is chosen, it should branch out to a complete different direction.
I just cannot figure that out yet. this is my third day working on Captivate and I feel like I am wrestling it.

What am I doing wrong? Is there any setting that I am missing? I am not grading user’s/learner’s scores. I am simply using the questions for self reflection/actualization.

If someone can shine a light on this it would be much appreciated.

Regards,
PCEnki

Drag and Drop, Question Submit button

Hello Everyone,

I am using Captivate 9. I have 3 questions:

1. In Drag & Drop question, can we reset only incorrect options? If user drag the options, then I need to reset only incorrect option and I want to correct options should be there.

2. When user attempt MCQ/MRQ or any question, the message appears “Click anywhere to continue…”, so, Can we convert Submit button to Next button instead of “click anywhere….”? Can we do this?

3. How to convert question “feedback” to “Speech bubble callouts”? I am not able to find change shape here.

Looking forward for help. Many thanks in advance.

Regards,
Nitesh

Couse completion issue…any ideas?!

Hi all,

I’ve created a course based on system compliance.

This is the scenario:

  1. The course requires bookmarking (remember where the user left off if exiting early for some reason)
  2. If they fail the course, they need to re-take the entire course, not just the quiz (we want them to learn the content, not just guess the answers several times)
  3. The course has branches (different processes for different groups of salespeople)

This is the problem:

Users would like the option to resume from where they left off.

Enabling ‘Send Resume Data’ provides a way for the user to get back to the point where they last left off, that’s great. However, if they exit the course after viewing at least one question slide, it’s considered that they ‘attempted’ the quiz.  As a result, this marks the course as ‘Completed’.

I need a way for them to be able to get to the end of the course, answering the questions within the branch they are on and be able to fail. Only at this point should the course be considered as ‘Completed’.

This way I can use Completed (they got to the end of the course) vs Successfully Completed (they got to the end of the course and passed the quiz).

Using xAPI output, I only have the following three options to consider the course as ‘Completed’:

  1. Quiz is attempted (if the user exits the course during the first question it considers this as ‘attempted’ so marks the course as completed – No good, as they can’t them resume from where they left off previously).
  2. Quiz is passed (No good to me as I want the LMS to return the user to the beginning of the course if they fail).  Instead, they will be taken back to the final screen in a loop as the course isn’t classed as being completed, so they ‘Resume’.
  3. Quiz is passed or the quiz attempt limit is reached (This one won’t be any good either as the user exiting the course anytime before the end of the course will mark it as completed)

I thought perhaps using Slide views % might help, although I suspect this won’t be branch aware and it will look at 100% as being the number of slides across the entire course, not just the specific branch they are going down, right?

Does anyone know of a way around this? I’m surprised there isn’t an option something like ‘Course is considered completed when user visits slide X’ or Quiz is passed.

I’d appreciate any help if possible please!

Thanks

Lee

Map animation synched to quiz answers

I wonder if I can do this in Captivate:

I want to construct a multi-question quiz with a map. The quiz is about a person visiting several cities along an itinerary, like a tourist visiting the famous landmarks in country, or an army conquering one city after the other, etc.

The first question in the quiz is “What is the next city?” This is a city on the invisible itinerary on the map displayed on the question slide. At this point the map displays only the first city (City A) of the itinerary.

When the user picks the right next city, and animated path (like someone driving a car) extends from City A to (previously hidden, but now displayed) City B. That animation effect is important.

When the next question is also answered correctly, the winding animated line this time extends from City B to (previously hidden, but now displayed) City C on the map. And so on until the last destination city on the itinerary is reached.

Is this type of “conditional animation” possible in Captivate? Thanks.

How to set up a dragn’dop activity with 3 drop-zone and 5 drag objects

Hello everyone,

I’ve an issue concerning the set up of a dragn’drop :

This activity is composed of : 5 drag objects (3 corrects and 2 incorrects) & 3 drop zone

The 3 corrects objects (“industrialize, Simplify the way of working & improve the performance), can be drop on all drop zone (1,2 or 3).

In order to report all the possible situation, I fill in all the correct answer in the dragn’drop  panel.

By the way I’ve 6 possible answers.

Just a question about this point, what is the difference between sequence versus combinaison type ?

I switch between the two types, but no difference in the result…

In the same time I define 2 possible states for the drop zone : correct and incorrect:

Users have 2 attempts for this exercise.

So my question is :

When the user has selected the 3 corrects answers the drop zone switch on drop correct states.

When the user has selected a partial correct answer, for example 2 correct and 1 incorrect: the 3 drop zone switch on incorrect states.

How to have ‘individual’ switch state of these drop zone, in order to recognize a partial correct answer?

Many thank’s for your help.

B.R.

Chris

MC Quiz Retry Image Fill Problem – Captivate is Deleting and Resizing my PNGs

Hello,

In both versions of Cap 2017 and 2019, I’m having an issue where I’ve got a small png file, 75 kb, that I’m using as the retry message fill when someone gets a quiz question wrong. I’ve customized the Incorrect and Retry shapes by selecting Fill and using the same image in my library.  It works fine for the incorrect shape. No problems. I could have 10 of these in my module and every time it works. Even if I save, close, and reopen. No problems. This is for T/F slides.

But the retry shape – it does weird stuff.  Let me first say I use the retry shape for multiple choice, multiple answer/infinite attempts so that they keep getting a message if they’ve submitted more than one wrong answer. We want people to get the answer correct before they can continue.

Here’s the thing, sometimes it works for retry when I first import the image. Sometimes, when I open the custom image option and select the file to use, it actually creates a new file version – it adds (2), (3), an so on – for the file name and then increases the image size to 1344kb!  Sometimes, when it seems to work at first, next time I open the captivate file, captivate automatically deleted the custom image from the fill. When I try to select it again from the library, it starts creating new files and increasing the size again. Totally frustrating. I’ve tried updating and importing the image into the library and that used to fix it in 2017, but it doesn’t in 2019.

Thanks in advance for your help!

K

Is there a way of creating a custom submit and replay/clear button on a drag and drop?

Hi,

I am in the process of adding a menu to my course and on the drag and drop pages the built in submit and clear buttons overlap this as you can see below.

Is there a way of creating custom drag and drop submit/clear buttons as this doesn’t happen with the next/previous buttons which I built myself. And I can’t seem to find a way around this.

I am using Captivate 2017 btw.

Thanks,
Sarah
